"I have worked for Volvo for over 6 years having started in 2018 as Apprentice Technician. It took me 2 years to get my Level 2 Apprenticeship and then another two years for Level 3. I then took on the position of Service Advisor for two years. In 2024 and under the new ownership of Ray Chapman Motors I was promoted to Workshop Controller/Andon at the brand new site on Canal Road in Bradford. Our new state-of-the-art workshop facility provides the perfect space for us to look after our customers and their Volvos."

Used Car Stock Manager

"I joined Ray Chapman Motors in December 2022 and work within our Used Car Department. With a family background in the motor trade, particularly with Volvo, the brand has always been a big part of my life. What I love most is the people I work with, and I really admire the company’s family values and genuine belief in how customers should be treated. It creates such a positive culture and makes Ray Chapman Motors a truly special place to work. My dream car would be Volvo XC70 D5 Ocean Race"

Transaction Manager - Malton

"How time flies! I've been with the Chapman Family since September 2016 starting as a sales consultant and can honestly say it's a great place to be! The friendly team, the ongoing training and development, the support from the Chapmans both inside and out of work, what's not to love! I've held different sales roles in this time and thoroughly enjoy the fast paced environment, helping our friendly and loyal customers, and promoting our exceptional Volvo cars. Who would have thought the brand would change so much in so little time. I have to admit its made me a little bit Volvo obsessed to the point I've just bought a 1996 960 executive saloon..."

What opportunities for progression are there?

Ray Chapman Motors is committed to supporting employee growth and development. Progression within the organisation depends on available roles and business needs, so there isn’t a fixed progression path. However, we encourage internal applications when vacancies arise, and we support development through on-the-job learning and management training programmes. We value initiative and are always open to discussing career goals with employees as opportunities develop.

What might the initial training process involve?

Training is tailored to the requirements of each role, and we recognise that people learn in different ways. We aim to offer a flexible approach to learning and development to support individual needs and help everyone succeed in their position.  Full training will be provided on the job, with the opportunity to attend additional or external courses where appropriate.

What is the induction process?

When new employees join Ray Chapman Motors, we understand the importance of establishing a broader knowledge of the business, including its history, how different departments collaborate, and meeting the team across the group. With this in mind, every month we conduct an Introduction to RCM day where all new starters travel to our four dealerships, including Head Office, to see the facilities and meet colleagues.

Additionally, once you have completed three full years of service you will be entitled to take off your birthday as an extra days paid holiday.

What is the work culture like?

As a family-owned, family-run business, Ray Chapman Motors recognise that our people are our greatest asset.  It is understood that no member of the team is more important than the next, we simply have different roles and responsibilities. Working for a family-owned business, not a plc, where there’s a strong sense of community and a friendly working environment. Being part of a great team and feeling valued for the work you do makes the experience rewarding.

Do you offer a pension scheme?

Yes, our pension contributions are 4% for the employer, and 5% for the employee. Employees can increase their contributions, however the employer contribution is fixed.  Pension is only paid on basic wage, not on any commission or bonus. For employees earning 9% above national living wage, we provide a salary sacrifice pension scheme. The benefit of salary sacrifice is that it reduces your salary, and that means you pay less tax and NI, the pension contribution the employee pays is 5%, and the employer is 4%.
