We are looking for a SALES SUPPORT APPRENTICE to be based at our YORK dealership

If you’re a confident and outgoing individual considering a career in the retail customer services or sales, and want real customer facing experience and a salary while you learn, our Volvo Sales Support Apprenticeship could be for perfect for you. This is a vital role within a Volvo Sales Department because it’s about making sure the customer always comes first, and we deliver our promises.

The role is varied with every day bringing a new challenge, your objective is to increase the efficiency of your sales team colleagues, and be actively involved in delivering great customer service.

You will need excellent presentation and communication skills and have the ability to pass on information in a detailed manner to customers and your colleagues. It is important to be comfortable with the use of information technology and be familiar with the internet and social media. Although you will not directly be selling cars, you will need to understand the customers’ buying process to play your part in supporting the sales team.

Over an 18 months period you will work towards Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Customer Service with support from your employer and Volvo Car UK along the way, giving you an excellent foundation into the retail motor industry.

Main responsibilities & duties:

  • Supporting our sales customers’ sales experience both face to face, over the phone via e-mail and web contact
  • Supporting the Sales Team in the following tasks:
    • Hosting customers
    • Handovers – explanation of features and controls
    • Showroom presentation/display
    • Product presentation
    • Order progress chasing
    • General sales administration tasks
    • Online marketing support o Used Car Display
    • Outbound customer contact – phone and e-mail
    • Social & digital marketing support

Weekly Wage: National Minimum Wage appropriate to Age 

Working Week: Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 6.00pm;  Saturday, 9.00am – 5.00pm, Sunday, 11.00am – 4.00pm.  

You will participate in the Sales Department rota to ensure the department is covered seven days per week.

Volvo Car UK has over 120 retailers representing Volvo brand for new and used car sales, parts and service. We offer a range of Apprentice programmes for technical sales and aftersales positions.

Over the 18 month programme will work towards Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Customer Service, and receive the following;

  • On the job training supported with coaching and assessment in your normal working environment
  • 15 days instructor lead training at Volvo’s Training & Development Centre at Daventry
  • 18 Web based training: modules (+ other elective sessions if you wish)

Skills Required :

  • 6 Qualification unit assignments: completed by self-study/in dealer study  
  • 7 in dealer assessments towards your qualification 
  •  Excellent communication & listening skills 
  • The ability to engage with customers and build rapport 
  • Be well organised and able to process detailed information 
  • The ability to work as part of a team, supporting a number of colleagues Personal Qualities required: 

  • Motivated to offer excellent customer service
  • Desire to work in a results-focussed environment
  • Take responsibility to keep your product knowledge up to date and relevant
  • Flexibility to work within showroom opening hours, including weekends

Qualifications Required: You will need 3 GCSEs or equivalent at A-C, especially Maths, English, ICT or equivalent. Important Other Information: The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
